My Long Strange Trip by Weatherbill (Jan 22 2009)

It was 1986, I was 18, touring with the Dead, selling, dropping & chasing women. We would sometimes hop the fence and sneak in since all the shows were sold out, where Bob Dylan would open for the Dead that year.

After summer tour 86, Jerry almost died and all shows were canceled. That left me out in San Francisco wondering what to do, since I was an east coast kid and first time out west. My life goal at the time was to sell enough of whatever to buy a VW van and tour with the Dead for the rest of my life.

As I was hitching around the country, doing my own tour, God was after me. Wherever I went, God had someone in my path, trying to draw me, trying to reveal himself to me, gently prodding me. Eventually, I wound up at a rainbow gathering outside Eugene OR, Cougar Hot Springs and met a friend Larry. We would have pot smoking bible studies at his house & some how, I started to get into this, but still, no real change. This was fall of 1986.

But Hey Now! Jerry was back, so it was time 4 some New Years shows! I could remember my first real answered prayer. I was stuck hitching close to Mt Shasta for hours. I was trying to get a ride to Berkley for the shows. Finally, I prayed "God, get me a ride." It was not 2 minutes later that a trucker pulled over and it was a ride all the way to Berkeley!

The night of the 1st of 4 shows, I did my normal dosage, which was about 2-4 hits every other week for a time, but this trip was quite different. People started reading my mind and speaking my thoughts. I had no idea at the time. I thought dead heads had done so much LSD, that we could all now telepathically communicate, but later, I realized, they were demons speaking my thoughts and talking to me.

On the 3rd day, I couldn't find a ticket. All the shows were sold out, so I walked way out onto the highway to try to flag someone down with a spare ticket who might be coming in to see the show. No luck. Making the long track back, several blocks from the Keiser Auditorium, I prayed, "God, get me a ticket." I thought, since it worked for hitching, it might work for getting a ticket. Well, when I got a block from the Keiser, I happened to be in the right place at the right time and there was a guy passing out free tickets from his car. I quickly swiped one out of his outstretched hand. Soon, his car was swarmed by heads and off he sped, escaping the throng of people about to burry his car in a blockade of human flesh. That was my 2nd answered prayer! God was revealing himself to me more and more.

A week later I found myself back up in Oregon and in the hospital in a coma. My friends described what sounded like a biblical story of a demonically possessed man, with eyes rolled back , foaming at the mouth with convulsions when faced by the power of Jesus. Not sure, but I must have been attacked by a demon since God was after me and the demons didn't like that.

Well I recouped from that and it was time for some more Dead shows in March, so it was down to Cali for some more. After those shows I decided I was going to move to a better climate, so it was onto Santa Cruz California.

About a month later I was camped out under a bridge. Soon enough, I heard these voices out in the woods say "He's gone, he's gone". I said "Who's out there?" The next voice I heard was the audible voice of Jesus Christ. He said "I'm your Lord, Jesus Christ." I asked what do you want and Jesus began to give me a list of things I needed to do to change. I have not regretted any of it and it was one of the greatest days of my life.

The next am, I had a new presence with me that I had never felt before. It was the gift of the promise of the Spirit, to all who decide to follow Christ.

I can't say it's been all smooth sailing walking with God, but it has been a great journey with God for these 22 years. The door is still open to anyone who would walk thru that door of faith and receive the gift of eternal life thru Jesus. He is alive and he is the Lord, coming back to over throw this wicked world & bring in everlasting peace. If you're wanting the music to really never stop, gotta go with the big wheel turning by the grace of God. Then you could truly sing, "it ain't, never gonna end." So if you're Wharf Rat Doggin' it, ask Jesus to get U to livin' the good life.

I hope we can all be gathered again when Jesus, the ticket in, comes to take his children home, but no ticket, no entry. It's as simple as that! Acts 4:12

Remember what Jerry loved to sing. He was trying to show us.
"I love you, but Jesus loves you best."

If you don't know Jesus Christ, I encourage you to give up the 2nd death and walking in the flesh (carnality) and come to the only one who can grant eternal life in paradise and help you to walk in the Spirit, so you would know the Love of the Father of all life! His peace and joy never grow old!

If you would like to escape the 2nd death in the Dire Wolf, say this prayer
"Lord Jesus, I want to make a firm decision to follow you. Please help me to follow you by giving me the Holy Spirit. I turn now from all sin. I ask that you become Lord of my life. Lord begin to work in my heart and life the way you want. Amen"

If you've prayed that prayer, now begin to walk like you care about what God thinks more than anyone else and he will begin to reveal himself to you more and more as you press into him in reading the bible and finding other in the faith to hang with.

I plan on sharing this with many other people who have a similar background to yours and maybe, just maybe, they will listen to your words and turn their lives over to Jesus as well. Keep preaching brother!
